New Hope for an Old Game: MTG Scene Rebuilds in Roseburg
It’s been a big year for Magic: The Gathering in Roseburg.
After years of quiet Fridays and scattered game nights, the local MTG community is not just alive again—it’s thriving. The return of regular in-person play, the success of a new local game store, and a surge of competitive energy have reignited the spark that once made Roseburg a cornerstone of the Southern Oregon Magic scene.
Players on the Rise
Over the past year, a growing number of local players have been hitting the road—traveling all over Oregon to chase Regional Championship Qualifier (RCQ) invites. Their efforts are paying off: for the first time ever, multiple Roseburg locals have earned invitations to Regional Championships, a major milestone for any competitive Magic player. Others have found success digitally, qualifying for Arena Open Day 2s and Arena Qualifiers, proving that Roseburg talent is showing up on every level of the game.
A New Home for Magic
Much of this momentum can be traced to the opening of the new Local Game Store - Tabletop Kingdom - that’s quickly become the heartbeat of the community. Weekly events are back—Modern, Standard, Commander, you name it—and they’re drawing both new faces and long-time veterans. With the store now officially WPN-recognized and soon to begin hosting RCQs, the foundation is set for continued growth.
Community First
Behind the scenes, the Douglas County TCG Community Discord has kept the community strong and connected, organizing events, sharing decklists, and keeping everyone in the loop. It’s become more than just a message board—it’s the digital meeting hall for a group of players that genuinely cares about growing together.
Even more exciting: many players who once drifted from the game have found their way back to the table. Friday nights feel familiar again.
GP Roseburg and What’s Next
Earlier this year, the first-ever GP Roseburg was a smash hit. Players from across the region turned out for a day of high-level play and community connection. A huge shoutout to Allen Gross for taking the top spot, and to everyone who helped make the event a success.
But we’re just getting started.
More big events are on the horizon—including RCQs, specialty formats, and yes, GP Roseburg 2026. If the past year has shown anything, it’s that the community is ready. Whether you’re competitive, casual, or somewhere in between, there’s never been a better time to play Magic in Roseburg.
